Diary of a graduate student in SOKENDAI

One week in the life in the KEK theory group:

Monday:
Lecture for graduate students in SOKENDAI by a KEK faculty member (10:00-12:00): Postdocs sometimes attend this lecture.

Journal club (12:15-):
It often starts soon after the lecture has finished, and we have no time to have lunch. Finishing time depends on the speaker. Graduate students in SOKENDAI must report once a year. It is one of the hardest event of the year for us.

Tuesday:
Theory seminar (11:00-):
After this seminar we have lunch with the speaker at a restaurant in KEK.

Physics seminar (16:00-):
This seminar is mainly for the experiment group. Occasionally, a big name in theoretical physics gives a seminar.

Wednesday:
No seminar is held on this day.

Thursday:
Meeting with my supervisor and other collaborators in the afternoon.

Friday:
Journal club (12:15-):
Same as mentioned above.
I sometimes attend a seminar at Tsukuba university (14:00-).
Tea party (15:00-): In this party we enjoy various confectionaries and snacks, having a pleasant chat.
