Most of the faculty members of KEK theory group belong also to SOKENDAI, and the number of them is twenty. There is no other institute in Japan which has such a large number of faculty members working on theoretical particle and nuclear physics in one group. Graduate students in SOKENDAI have contact with the KEK faculty members through lectures, collaborations, daily discussions and supervision.
A graduate student in our department (theory group) chooses his supervisor at admission. He can surely choose a suitable supervisor for his own research field because there are so many faculty members. The supervisor leads his student to develop his ability and to get the doctor's degree (Ph.D). Graduate students are encouraged to discuss actively with other faculty members, postdocs and senior students. In some cases the supervisor or other faculty members suggest a research subject, but there are also many other cases in which a student starts collaborations smoothly through daily discussions not only with his supervisor but also with other researchers in our department.
In this page we introduce all the faculty members in our department (theory group) classifying them roughly according to their research subjects. Note, however, that the classification is intended only for the readers' convenience. Actually there are quite a few people whose research subjects spread over different fields, and that makes the border of the research fields unclear. The fact that active investigations in widespread fields are being carried out keeping close mutual relationship should rather be considered as one of the merits of our group.
